Phillipa Duncan Bloodstock Pty Ltd has been consigning yearlings, as agent at the Australian Easter Yearling Sales for over 20 years. In 2001, my client Susan Suduk, gave me the opportunity to participate in the design and construction of a new yearling barn at her property, Risdon. We examined almost very available option and finally selected a new stall and flooring system – Corbro.
The decision to use the flooring product was made after careful consideration and five years later, we have no regrets about what was then a quite revolutionary system.
The time and labour cost of Corbro, to a traditional sawdust/straw box system figured prominently, however, the health, safety and welfare of not only the horses but also the staff were of equal, if not greater importance. The benefits of utilizing the system have been evident from the beginning. Among them include:

An enormous reduction in dust levels, resulting in cleaner airways in our yearlings

Better farrier management leading into a yearling prep – our yearlings remain barefooted until the week before they leave for the yearling sales

Lower fatigue levels of both horses and staff – once you stand on Corbro the comfort for both horses and humans is obvious.
